Consumption vs. Creativity
I was reading this article about how when we consume too much media in any capacity that it has the potential to dampen our creativity.
And I completely agree. I have always consumed too much media. I have watched a lot of TV. I used to say it was because I was going to be a film director or movie critic so I needed to watch and see how people did things. That was true at first...until it became a coping mechanism for the crap happening around them. I was beginning to become a zombie. Watching shows or movies and completely shutting off my brain. I can see now, the effect of it all when I write and how long it can take me to come up with fresh ideas.
I cannot change what has been altered. I cannot pretend that my choices have definitely affected my future. But what I can work on is how to make it better.
It is easy to write this, when no one knows who I am. I could easily write this full of self-empowerment and encourage others to do the same. There is no accountability with an anonymous blog.
But, then again. I may not need it. If you want something bad enough, you will do what you have to do, in order to get it. I think this applies for everyone. Even those lacking confidence and motivation. When something gets to be too much and you want it to change...you will change it.
I can say, that since noticing the change in my writing and the lack of creativity. I have done a few things with hopes that it will give my creative muscles a much need workout regiment.
